Port Aransas: Reel in the Big One on Extended Half Day

Ready to wet a line in some of the best inshore fishing spots Port Aransas has to offer? Hop aboard our tricked-out bay boat for a six-hour adventure that'll have you casting for redfish, trout, and more. We're talking prime access to the rigs, flats, and rocks that most weekend warriors can only dream about. Whether you're itching to wade the shallows or push into those skinny back flats where the big boys hide, we've got you covered. This isn't your average half-day trip – we'll stay out until you hit your limit or the six hours are up, whichever comes first. Bring a buddy 'cause the price covers two anglers, but don't sweat it if you want to bring more – it's just an extra hundred bucks per person after that.

What to Expect on the Water

Listen up, folks – this ain't no leisurely cruise. We're here to put you on fish, and that means covering some serious water. Our bay boat is the Swiss Army knife of inshore fishing, letting us zip from the deep water rigs to the skinny flats in no time flat. You'll be tossing lures at structure, sight-casting to tailing reds, or maybe even wading a prime stretch of shoreline. The beauty of Port A is the variety, and we'll adapt our tactics to where the fish are biting. No experience? No problem. We'll show you the ropes and have you casting like a pro in no time. Just remember to bring your A-game, some sunscreen, and maybe a few cold ones for the ride.

Fishing Techniques & Hot Spots

Alright, let's talk strategy. Depending on the tide, wind, and where the bait's running, we might start our day drifting the grass flats, tossing soft plastics for trout. If the redfish are pushing up shallow, we'll ease into the back lakes and sight-cast to schools of hungry reds. Got a hankering for some drag-screaming action? We'll run out to the nearshore rigs and drop live bait for whatever's hungry down there. Topwater, jigs, popping corks – we've got all the tools of the trade on board. And if you're keen to get your feet wet, we'll hop out and wade those primo spots where the big girls like to hang out. Just remember, in Port A, the fish and the weather can change on a dime, so we'll stay flexible and keep the rods bent.

Hunter Highlights

"I had a great fishing trip with Captain Brian. That air boat was an incredible experience, what a great boat. Big comfortable chairs, and a great fishing platform. Great conversation and technical knowledge of the entire area. It was a quick trip for me but we chased Reds around the bay. Highly recommend Captain Brian!" - David

Species You'll Want to Hook

Redfish: These copper-colored bruisers are the rock stars of Texas inshore fishing. They'll test your drag and your patience, often tailing in water so shallow you can see their backs. Fall is prime time when they school up and go on the feed. Nothing beats the thrill of watching a big red crush a topwater lure in inches of water.

Sea Trout: Sneaky and smart, speckled trout are the bread and butter of Port A fishing. They love to hang around structure and ambush bait. Early mornings and late evenings are your best bet for hooking into a gator trout. These fish are masters at throwing hooks, so keep that rod tip up and be ready for some acrobatics.

Black Drum: Don't let their ugly mugs fool you – black drum are hard-fighting and tasty to boot. They love cruising the shallows, rooting for crabs and shrimp. Spring is the time to target the big ones, often called "big uglies" by locals. Bring your heavy gear because these boys can push 50 pounds or more.

Southern Flounder: Flat as a pancake and twice as tasty, flounder are the ninjas of the inshore world. They'll bury themselves in the sand, waiting to ambush unsuspecting bait fish. Fall is flounder run time, when these flatfish stack up in the passes heading offshore to spawn. Gigging for flounder at night is a Port A tradition that's not to be missed.

Time to Book Your Spot

Look, if you're still reading this, you know you want to get out on the water. Port Aransas is a fish-catching machine, and we've got the keys to unlock it. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a first-timer, our extended half-day trip is the perfect way to experience the best inshore fishing Texas has to offer. We provide the boat, the know-how, and the hot spots – you just need to bring your game face and be ready to reel 'em in. Don't let another season slip by without wetting a line in Port A. Give us a shout, and let's get you on the fish. Trust me, the only thing you'll regret is not doing it sooner. Book now, and get ready for some serious rod-bending action!

Black Drum

Black Drum are the heavyweight champions of our local waters. These bruisers can tip the scales at 30-90 pounds, though the sweet spot for eating is under 15 pounds. You'll find them hanging around oyster beds, mudflats, and creek mouths. Spring's the time to target them, as they school up to spawn. Black Drum are known for the croaking sound they make, which can actually help you locate them. They're not the prettiest fish, but they put up a stubborn fight and can really test your gear. Bring heavy tackle and plenty of patience. For bait, fresh crab is hard to beat - it's like candy to these fish. My go-to rig is a simple fish-finder setup with a circle hook. Let them take it and start to run before you set.

Black Drum

Redfish

Redfish are the rockstars of our flats. You'll spot 'em by that distinctive black dot near the tail. Most run 28-33 inches, but they can get much bigger. These copper-colored bruisers love shallow water - sometimes so shallow their backs stick out. Look for them around oyster reefs, grass flats, and mangroves. They're here year-round, but fall's when they really turn on. Reds are known for their powerful runs and stubborn fights, especially in shallow water. They're also great eating, with a mild, sweet flavor. When sight-fishing, keep an eye out for their tails sticking up as they root for crabs in the mud. If you see one, a well-placed gold spoon or soft plastic shrimp is hard to beat. Just be ready for that initial burst when they realize they're hooked!

Redfish

Sea Trout

Sea Trout, or Speckled Trout as we call 'em, are a staple of Port Aransas fishing. These silvery, spotted beauties usually run 14-24 inches and love to hang out in grass flats and shallow waters. They're most active at dawn and dusk, especially around moving tides. Sea Trout are known for their soft, white meat and put up a decent fight on light tackle. What makes them fun is their aggressive strikes - they'll often hit topwater lures with a splash you can hear across the bay. We catch 'em year-round, but fall and spring are prime times. If you're wade fishing, try working a soft plastic slowly along the bottom. These fish have great eyesight, so use light leaders and natural colors for best results.

Sea Trout

Southern Flounder

These flatfish are a real treat to catch in Port Aransas. Typically 15-18 inches long, they're masters of camouflage, blending into sandy or muddy bottoms. You'll find 'em in shallow coastal waters, bays, and estuaries. Fall's the prime time as they move offshore to spawn. Flounder are ambush predators, so we'll target structure and drop-offs where they lie in wait. They're not known for putting up a big fight, but the challenge is in the hunt and the hook-set. Plus, they're absolutely delicious - some of the best eating fish out there. Pro tip: when you feel that telltale "thump," wait a few seconds before setting the hook. Flounder often grab prey sideways before turning it to swallow.
